For some people fishing is the most important part of their Boundary Waters trip. There have been BWCA trips I have gone on where I haven't even brought a fishing pole along. That would be difficult to imagine for the folks who like to fish from sunrise to sunset. Serious angler or not the Boundary Waters is a great place to paddle and catch fish.
There are over a thousand lakes in the Boundary Waters and most of these are teeming with fish. Smallmouth bass are abundant and popular with beginners and experts alike. They are amazingly easy to catch and come in all sizes but primarily big ones up to 20". There's nothing like reeling in a fighting smallmouth from a canoe or kayak.
There are a tons of different ways to catch smallmouth in the BWCA. Trolling a spoon, casting a crankbait, using a worm on a slip bobber and almost any other way you would try to catch other species of fish. It's difficult to keep them off of your line no matter what you're fishing for.
If you want to catch fish then the BWCA is the place to be. No matter what age or experience level your bound to find a smallmouth bass at the end of your line.
