Day 12 Voyageur Hudson Bay Expedition

Saturday, June 4, 2011 by Sue Prom
The Voyageur Hudson Bay Expedition Crew paddled Voyageurs National Park today.  They canoed over 26 miles, another marathon!  The weather was perfect for paddling with barely a breeze.  The sun was shining and the temperature got up into the 80's.
They paddled Namakan Lake which Scott Anderson wrote about in his book called, "Distant Fires."  "We covered the remaining 30 miles to out destination small island on Namakan Lake. Paddling well into the evening to reach our goal, we were rewarded with one of the most beautiful scenes we had even seen. Through the sun had been lost long before, the water was illuminated still by the silver light of an enormous moon. The only sound came from our paddles as they pulled at the still water. The islands around us, the eerie in the vague outlines of their silhouettes, seemed to float on the black water. Their tree lined hills, stunning in the daylight, were majestic in the moonglow. Across the lake we could make out the warm glow of a distant fire."
Adam's Dad pointed this passage out to me as well as the fact the Voyageur's have this book along with them and many others.  The other thing Adam's Dad told me was all of the webcams on Kabetogama Lake.  You can see if you can catch a glimpse of them tomorrow on this site.
