Voyageur Expedition Begins

Monday, May 23, 2011 by Sue Prom
On a wet, grey day the Voyageur Hudson Bay Expedition Crew begins their over 80 day journey from Lake Superior to the Hudson Bay.  There won't be much paddling on this first day of their trip as they must travel the Grand Portage.  It's an almost 9-mile trail that skirts around the waterfalls and rapids of the Pigeon River that are not navigeable by watercraft.
The weekend was spent at Voyageur preparing all of the last minute items they needed.  They met with Peter the paddle guy, served a few pancake breakfasts and enjoyed a great send-off dinner at Hungry Jack Lodge on Saturday night.  They were excited and ready to start their trip and we wish them the best.

Hi guys,
I'm Kristi O's grandma. I have met two of you...Andrew and Adam...last fall when I was up at VCO to visit Kristi. Your group will be in my prayers until you return safely! May the wind be always at your back! A little sunshine would be nice too! Enjoy your trek Voyageurs! Be safe! GG (stands for Grandma Gloria).
